LEGO CLUB
A fun collaborative play therapy group whereby children work together to build LEGO models. Meeting every Wednesday or Thursday afternoon for ten weeks across the school term, your child will have opportunity to establish friendships with likeminded peers. LEGO club therapy has proven evidence to build social competence for children with autism and related conditions and benefits children through developing skills in:
Collaboration
Joint attention
Joint accomplishment
Division of labour
Sharing
Turn taking
Eye-contact
Gaze-following
Verbal communication
Non-verbal communication
Prior to joining LEGO club it is important your child is between the age of 5 to 12 years old and can already perform most of the following activities:
Sort by colour, shape, and size
Match three dimensional pieces ("Find another one like this")
Match two dimensional images (from instructions) with actual pieces (i.e "Find another one like this")
Piece assembly (i.e "Put this one on top, press hard")
Imitation (i.e. "Can you make yours like mine")
Turn taking (ie. "Okay you do the next one")
Simple collaborative building (i.e. "What should we build? What next? Show meβ)
Social interaction and communication skills with peers
Self-monitoring, self-control, and compliance with routines and adult direction
Basic building skills
The following communication skills; requests, responding, engaging with others.
When: Wednesday 3:30pm- 4:45pm for 5-8 year olds
Thursday 3:30pm- 4:45pm for 9 to 12 year olds
Where: Suite 6, 66 Aralia Street, Nightcliff (Aralia St Shops)
Cost: $150 per session*
*Conducted as 10 weekly sessions over the term, must be booked as a 'package' of 10 sessions.
Group Limit: 6 children per group
