Who Am I?

Bryony Crowe,

Director, Occupational Therapist

BA/BSc BSc(Hons) MOT

Bryony is a third generation Territorian, growing up on a small farm just outside of Darwin. Bryony has a strong appreciation of nature and animals and loves spending time exploring outdoors or trying to grow a productive garden and live sustainably. Her journey began in the world of rocks as a geologist, but she soon discovered her true calling was with people and, especially, the vibrant energy of children. Trading rocks for smiles, she found her calling as a paediatric occupational therapist. With a blend of curiosity and heart full of laughter, she brings a touch of playful magic to her profession, helping children unlock their potential on a remarkable journey of growth and development.

Bryony graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Science with honours from University of Adelaide and a Masters of Occupational Therapy from University of Sydney. She is trained in a wide range of therapeutic modalities and has worked in private practices delivering therapy in schools and clinic settings. Bryony is highly sought after and recognised for her OT knowledge, having been a panellist and co-author of several journal articles. Bryony's scientific and research background enables her to excel in analysing journal articles and integrating the latest evidence into her occupational therapy practice, ensuring effective and informed interventions for her clients.

Drawing upon her extensive training and expertise as an occupational therapist, she can offer a wide array of approaches and interventions to support the occupational performance and participation of neurodivergent children. She can draw from methodologies such as the Perceive, Recall, Plan, Perform (PRPP) system of task analysis, Learn To Play Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Occupation Performance Coaching (OPC), LEGO-Based Therapy, Trauma Training, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Training, DIR-Floortime, Self-Reg, Alert Programme, Zones of Regulation, Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®), and has participated in the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs) Forum. These approaches allow her to ensure that the interventions are sensitive to the unique needs and strengths of neurodivergent children.

Occupational Therapy Darwin

Who do I love working with?

I specialise in providing support for neurodivergent children aged 3-12, including those with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, ADD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Anxiety, and Specific Learning Disabilities (such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia). I am dedicated to understanding and celebrating the unique strengths and challenges of each child.

My focus is on assisting children in achieving meaningful, occupation-based goals that enhance their daily lives. This may involve areas such as play, self-care skills, writing, developing and following a routine in the morning or evening, and completing school work or homework.

Collaboration is essential to my practice, and I work closely with teachers to develop strategies that address the specific needs of each child. By creating inclusive classroom environments, I aim to support the overall well-being and success of all students.

I approach therapy with a task-based mindset, emphasising practical goals that directly relate to the child's daily activities. This approach helps children develop the skills and confidence necessary to navigate their routines and enhance their independence.

I am passionate about working with neurodivergent children aged 3-12, including those with a range of conditions. I celebrate their unique strengths and focus on meaningful goals, while also prioritising the development of their communication skills. As I am able to visit schools, through collaboration with teachers, we can create inclusive environments that support your child's growth, independence, and overall life satisfaction.

Why Did I Start Arc OT?

I started Arc Occupational Therapy for Children with a deep understanding and appreciation for neurodiversity, driven by my personal journey and unique perspective. I empathise with and relate to the challenges faced by children in the Top End who navigate our community and education system with diverse neurological profiles.

My personal experiences have shaped my practice, fostering a compassionate and inclusive approach that celebrates the strengths and abilities of each individual. I firmly believe that neurodiversity is a valuable and essential part of our society, and I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is affirming, empowering, and accommodating of all neurological differences.

With my lived experience and commitment to continuous learning and growth, I have established Arc Occupational Therapy as a safe haven where neurodivergent children can flourish, find their voices, and build the skills and confidence to navigate the world on their terms. My neuro-affirming approach, coupled with my dedication, expertise, and genuine care, allows me to make a profound and positive impact on the lives of the children and families I serve.
